After I posted a photo of my Skillet Pizza on Friday, a number of you have asked for the recipe. So here it is. You have time to bake one today before kick off!
Johnny’s Skillet Pizza
1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 tsp. dry yeast (Quick Rise)
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup water, cold
1 tbs. olive oil, for greasing pan
1/3 cup of your favorite pizza sauce
12 oz. mozzarella & provolone mix cheese
Toppings of your choice
10” Cast Iron Skillet
1 In a bowl, combine flour, yeast, and salt.
2 Stir in cold water well.
3 Sprinkle the dough with a little flour (helps keeps it from sticking while you work with it.)
4 Gently form into a ball.
5 Grease skillet with the olive oil. (bottom and sides of pan)
6 Place the dough ball in the center of the skillet and begin gently spreading it toward the edges.
7 Cover the pan with a plate and let rest for at least an hour.
8 Preheat oven to highest temperature. (*550 F)
9 Add sauce, cheese, and toppings to the risen dough.
10 Place pizza/skillet on a medium high burner for 3 minutes.
11 Place pizza/skillet in preheated oven and bake about 12 minutes *(if oven is at 550 F, if your oven temp is lower then bake an additional 2-4 minutes or until golden).
12 Be VERY careful when removing the skillet from the oven, It will be EXTREMELY HOT!!
Tip: If using pepperoni place in the microwave between two paper towels for 20 seconds. It helps to remove some of the grease before baking.
