Where Does Our Coffee Come From?

Wow...the months are zooming by. I can't believe we are almost in the middle of November!!! My mom would always say, "Time flies by so fast. And when you hit your 50's? Well it's like it goes into turbo-charge." She wasn't kidding.

I wanted to put up a blog about the coffee we offer to our customers. Today, I wanted to showcase a great coffee from Costa Rica. Montero Specialty Coffee is owned and run by Manuel and Patricia Montero. As they state on their website and in speaking with Patricia in the past...they work their plantations from plant to bag. Manuel is 3rd generation coffee grower and along with his beautiful wife, children and grandson continue the growth and tradition of quality coffee and care for their workers.

The workers are paid above average wages and the ensure that their workers have decent housing and healthcare. The Montero family always had an extra plate or two set at their table any time.

They maintain an herbicide and pesticide free plantation. Relying on bird, lizard and mammal population to control and take care of it. They weed manually and ensure the coffee shrubs/trees are enjoying the proper sun/shade and soil nutrition.

The planation is growing at an elevation of 1,900 meters. which yields the Arabica varieties Caturra and Catuai. All their beans are SHB (Strictly Hard Bean).

All of this hard work and dedication delivers a perfect balanced cup. It is amazing the process these wonderful farms endure to deliver beautiful green coffee around the world.

The Montero family and employees work long hours... dedicated to producing beautiful green coffee. I take the same pride and dedication as the Montero family when roasting.  I ensure I deliver a perfect tasting coffee. I am very happy and blessed to have the opportunity of roasting their coffee and delivering to our customers. The cupping notes are caramel, honey, sweet & bright acidity.
