It's that time of the day where I like a little pick-me-up. That is where my Moka Pot comes in. Greatest invention and it has been around since the early 1930's.
These little workhorse gems are often referred to as stove top espresso makers. Producing coffee with an extraction similar to (but slightly higher than) to an espresso machine. Who says you can't make a latte or other espresso drinks at home! Depending on the bean and grind, you can have a wonderful "crema" too. I know that it's not a true espresso machine as it delivers an extraction of 1 to 2 bar where expresso machines extract at 9 bar...however, you will enjoy a wonderful cup.
So...last evening I got the Moka Pot brewing for a double shot espresso. This time I wanted to enjoy it with some whipping cream. Nowadays, I've been making a lot of syrups, flavorings and whipped cream from scratch. It's simple, quick and easy to do. I literally take a cup of heavy whipping cream and add 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla. If you want additional sweetness, add about 1-2 teaspoons of sugar. I really like it without the sugar. It's just enough sweetness from the heavy cream.
I poured my espresso and added a large dollop of whipped cream. I let it settle on top so as I sip my coffee, it runs right through the cream and it's a simple and delicious cup.
NOW.....for a little kick...why not a shot of your favorite whiskey!!!! If you are going to create this with a shot of whiskey (or your favorite liquor of choice), I would add you whiskey first, next the coffee and finally the whipped creme. A smooth and tasty treat to enjoy after a hectic day!
Hmmm...might be something to enjoy again this evening. (wink, wink, smiley face)
1 cup of heavy whipping cream
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1-2 teaspoons sugar (optional)
Using mixer at high speed, whip cream, vanilla and sugar until you see stiff peaks. Keep in Tupperware in refrigerator. Enjoy!
