Awhile back Bulletproof Coffee hit the scene. There is a company and website dedicated to selling you Bulletproof Coffee with specialty beans that are roasted specifically for their nutrient level etc etc blah blah blah. (Sorry, ok I'm not)
In it's simplest form...anyone can make bulletproof coffee at home. Here is what you need.
2 cups of coffee
1-2 tablespoons of MCT oil (or use coconut oil)
2 tablespoons of grass fed unsalted butter
Take your brewed coffee and add the butter and oil in a blender and whip it up. It will be a frothy looking drink...looks like a latte. It is said to boost your brain and provide you a full feeling until your next meal...being lunch. I did feel energetic and very clear thinking however I was starving by the time mid-morning rolled around.
Personally, I enjoy chewing my food I was never a big fan of liquid diets. They never worked on me. I'd rather chow down on a bunch of lettuce and vegetable with rice vinegar dressing than to drink a meal replacement. Don't get me wrong...I LOVE my coffee, however I would enjoy it with a meal verses it being my meal.
I've battled weight my whole life, I never was the super skinny girl. However, I decided awhile back that I just wanted to get healthy and not focus on a number on the scale. I believe in calories in verses calories out. I also believe everything in moderation including sweets, carbs etc. Since then, I've lost a lot of weight (still have some more to go) and feel great.
So having Bulletproof coffee as a meal replacement was not for me. Although some people have enjoyed the benefits of bulletproof coffee and have had success in weight loss...it's didn't work for me.
One thing you can do with your morning coffee is add 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil. There is a lot of benefits to adding just a tablespoon of coconut oil to your coffee. Funny thing...as I was preparing this post today, someone sent me another article regarding the benefits of coconut oil added to your coffee.
Adding Coconut Oil
- Enhances cognitive thinking. When you have that foggy feeling, it clears your head.
- Helps boost your immune system.
- Supports body fat loss. Yes! Coconut oil is a healthy fat that helps release adipose fat in the body.
- Great energy source. Adding a tablespoon can help boost your performance while exercising or playing sports.
By adding coconut oil to your coffee (or tea) is not miracle in a cup but it can offer some wonderful benefits. Personally I would stay away from the extra butter in the cup...just the coconut oil. That way you enjoy your coffee with coconut oil with your meal verses instead of a meal.
